Nina Raine’s off-Broadway hit Tribes has recouped its initial investment, just over one month before it is set to close. Directed by David Cromer and starring Russell Harvard and Susannah Flood, Tribes will play its final performance January 6, 2013 at the Barrow Street Theatre.
Tribes tells the story of Billy (Harvard), a deaf young man who is struggling to be understood in his opinionated hearing family. When he meets Sylvia (Flood), a young woman who is going deaf, he finally understands what it’s like to be heard. In addition to Harvard and Flood as Sylvia, the play's cast includes Jeff Still as Christopher, Lee Roy Rogers as Beth, Nick Westrate as Daniel and Dina Thomas as Ruth.
The play initially opened on March 4, starring Harvard, Mare Winningham, Susan Pourfar, Will Brill, Jeff Perry and Gayle Rankin. At the time of closing, the production will have played 19 previews and 345 regular performances, grossing over $2.5 million.
The Tribes creative team includes scenic designer Scott Pask, costume designer Tristan Raines, lighting designer Keith Parham, sound designer Daniel Kluger and projection designer Jeff Sugg.
